Have Racial and Ethnic Valuation Gaps in Home Purchase Narrowed?

​​​​​Although an appraisal valuation gap continues to exist between white and minority population tracts, data indicate a reduced gap following actions by stakeholders and federal, state, and local agen​cies, including the release of the PAVE Action Plan. More analysis is needed to determine whether this is a causal relationship.

As Director of FHFA’s Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), I am pleased to issue our 2017 Annual Report to Congress detailing the results of FHFA’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.  This is the fourth Report FHFA has issued since I became the Agency’s OMWI Director.  The report reflects the hard work of the OMWI team and the entire Agency in meeting our statutory obligations.

FHFA Uniform Appraisal Dataset Aggregate Statistics: A New Resource to Provide Insights on Home Valuation

Home valuation through the appraisal process is a vital component of the home purchase, mortgage lending, and equity-building processes. The public release of appraisal data may offer a new resource to generate valuable insights. Publicly sharing appraisal data improves market transparency and supports the public in analyzing potential valuation bias and discrimination.

FHFA Publishes New "Snapshots" of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's Duty to Serve Plans to Help Stakeholders Identify Opportunities

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) engaged extensively with stakeholders to develop their respective Duty to Serve Plans (DTS), which went into effect on January 1, 2018.  The Plans provide detailed information on how the Enterprises will provide leadership and facilitate a secondary market for very low-, low-, and moderate-income families in three specified areas as directed by statute: manufactured housing, affordable housing preservation, and rural housing.
