In January 2012, FHFA released the analyses the agency had conducted since December 2010 on the feasibility and benefit of principal forgiveness as a loan modification tool.[1] This paper presents the agency’s most recent work, which considers subsidy payments[2] the Department of the Treasury would provide to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) for reducing principal under the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP).

House prices fell 0.1 percent nationwide in November compared to October, according to the latest Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) House Price Index (HPI®). House prices rose 8.2 percent from November 2021 to November 2022. The previously reported 0.0 percent price decline in October 2022 remained unchanged.

​Today, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) released the 2023 Scorecard for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (together, the Enterprises) and their joint venture, Common Securitization Solutions, LLC (CSS). Each year, FHFA releases an annual Scorecard to communicate and provide public awareness of its priorities and expectations for the Enterprises and CSS​.
