Our most vulnerable, seniors, those with disabilities, low and fixed income residents are being priced out by the thousands, daily by corporation investors. In the last a few obths of 2022, manufactured home communities were sold without proper notification as required in good faith of the RCW. Within weeks high rent increases were received. Several seniors will be priced out to homeless as the increase goes into effect this August, 2023. These investors are quite aware of this, brag about this. In fact they purchased 10 additional communities to continue their conquest.
Our cities and counties keep believing the myth that they can build any priced housing, and they additional homes will take care of the needs. However if incomes do not allow for residents to pay rent currently, new higher rent housing is still out of reach.
We need leaders to step up to stop the high increases and fees that cause our most vulnerable to be priced out to homelessness at a rate higher than can be built. Most manufactured homeowners have lived unsubsiduzed in these communities, for years on low incomes annually under $50,000. Infact most under$30,000. Until these huge rent increases.
Years ago federal government promised to protect our most vulnerable from those that prey upon them. To help keep them housed and food on the table. Buying up these communities, increasing rents over fixed incomes, taking homes from our most vulnerable by pricing them out, confiscating homes to make a profit ...is preying on the elderly should not be tolerated. We need your help to protect our most vulnerable from these tactics. Please add the tenant protections and limit fees and rent increases to keep our most vulnerable housed, fed, and relieved of the stress of if they will be homeless.
