    Renters in my area are being pushed into homelessness by the steeply rising rents. Some are kept out of housing by high application fees and large deposits required up-front. When wages do not keep pace with rents, people are pushed into poverty. And even when wages go up , those on fixed incomes are at risk of eviction or unable to renew their leases. With this huge imbalance of wealth and power, we certainly need more renter protections, and some way to enforce the protections that are accessible for those who cannot afford to hire a lawyer.
