I'm writing on behalf of the San Jose chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice. Because of the long history of discrimination in housing, we know that renters rights are racial justice. We support robust tenant protections. A majority of people in Santa Clara County are affected by the high cost of housing, and many face displacement. We support requirements that landlords who get federal money to agree to tenant protections like limiting rent hikes, banning evictions without good cause, and standardizing leases in over 12 million apartment units nationwide.
