When I read over the list of federally backed properties located in my home city Lexington KY, I was struck by a trend: most of the worst actors in Lexington were listed
I was doorknocking last week at a federally backed property called Preakness Apartments in Lexington KY. That complex is known through the city as one of the worst for terrible conditions, dishonesty of management, and taking advantage of tenants who are hard up and in vulnerable situations. In the last couple of years here are some examples: a property manager was fired for stealing tenant checks. Without notice, tenants were expected to start paying additional charges for electricity and water (this was not made clear to residents, especially Spanish speaking ones). Three entire buildings were condemned. Last week I talked to a woman who has not had air or heat since she started living there (about a year): her apartment was 88 degrees.Owners who are federally backed should not be allowed to get away with this. People should not be living in hell while paying 2/3s of their paycheck. Please make them be better! They obviously won’t do it on their own.
