If we care about housing people, then it is beyond time that we start to see housing as a human right, and no longer as something we continue to fund in the ways that we fund it currently, and expect small changes to make a difference that gets everyone housed. We should care that everyone has a home. Science has proven that people are at their best when they have safe housing. Housing principles such as Housing First, a concept that says that getting people housed is the first priority then we address the other needs that keep people from personally being safe, their mental health, their addictions, etc. That with that housing people are able to address these other issues more efficiently. In order for this organization to do its part to stem the housing crisis in this country you must begin to put the people over the developer. We must house people over the profit of the developer. Financing that takes money from the people should go to first support the idea that housing is a human right and direct developers that in order to fulfill that principle the public money funded that we tenants pay in taxes and other ways, developers must developers can only have if they include very strong , pro tenant, tenant protections. Tenants want housing built and we also want to be able to benefit from the investment of our dollars to housing projects. We are in a housing crisis, people are suffering beachside of that fact, all across the country. Every federal government organization in the country should be doing everything they can to help tenants right now. This situation is dire.
