Landlords who get FannieMae loans shouldn't just be able to raise our rent - it should be based on our income too, because there's lots of single parents raising children and we have a lot of bills we're paying too!
The landlords should have to do repairs and keep things up- I don't think a child should fall through the floor or a fire should start from faulty wiring. Both of those things happened here at Bedford Manor / Canterbrook! They installed our lighting and fans wrong here and so they come on and off randomly at night and wake us up - things like that should be fixed, it's been like that for over a year! There should at least be some basic safety considerations too- in an inspection last month they took all our fire extinguishers and said we couldn't have them back, that's crazy.
And they shouldn't be able to threaten us for speaking up- It's a tenant's right to make complaints! It's our first amendment to say what we need to say about where we live. I spoke up and talked to the news when Bedford Manor (which has a FannieMae loan) was treating us disrespectfully during their mismanaged so-called "remodel" in 2022, and it took a lot of courage- people should be able to speak up without being worried about being evicted, and there should be rules about that to protect us.
