I reside in Germantown Garden Apartments in Chattanooga, TN. The property is both managed by Lexington Property. I have resided here for three (3) years and have never experienced such discriminatory treatment and lack of tenant respect by management and maintenance staff then displayed at this property. I have had eleven (11) water leaks/floods in my apartment since living here, with none being my fault. At no time did management attempt to compensate me for my property damage nor repeated inconvenience that included my having to clean up several times the unit was impacted by water. Most recently, I had a sewer pipe to burst which affected my entire apartment with black water. The next day management stated my apartment was clean for me to reside in after only having the floors clean. There was feces and toilet paper debris on baseboards of both bathrooms and due to such I contacted our local Code Enforcement. Management had the same company return to “clean”; however, management nor this company moved most of the affected belongings and required me to have someone move such as I had previously had quadruple bypass surgery. I had to use my personal funds to reside in a hotel for days and contacted the corporate office, only to be told they were satisfied with the outcome and would not do anything further to assist me. I’ve filled with the BBB and the TN state’s attorneys office, and now have been informed that my lease will not be renewed, which appears to be blatant retaliation. I’ve informed the local district attorney, with no response. Tenants should not be treated with such disrespect and after so many complaints with the BBB, the complex should be required to have a tenant association that represents their best interests. Having renter’s insurance should not be a resolution each time damages occur in a rental property. The property management should be liable for ineffective repairs and repeated inconveniences which tenants have to endure. Local government should have laws on their books to hold accountable these property management companies that retaliate and disrespect tenants who maintain payment necessary to reside in a safe and habitable environment.
