I've been a tenant ever since I was able to rent. I've needed to move almost every year since beginning to rent because the rent was increase or the apartment was unlivable. Because of the cost of rent and low wages I've had to live pay-check to pay-check and take out payday loans just to make sure I can pay rent on time. I believe that the FHFA must implement rent regulation to require that any property that is receiving federal loans from fannie man and freddie mac. I also believe that the FHFA must create structures that set them up to listen to the expertise of tenants to continue to strengthen the implementation of this policy. That also means that the FHFA should implement systems of accountability for landlords who violate these protections. We can't wait anymore, landlords continue to raise the rent increasing their bottom dollar while tenants are struggling.
