I recently read that there is nowhere in the United States of America that a person working a 40 hour week for minimum wage can afford to rent a 2-bedroom apartment. This means many people working for minimum wage have to work more than one job and/or live in over-crowded dwellings and/or endure long commutes.

If a minimum wage worker is supporting a child or children, they need childcare while they work more than one job.

This is unsustainable. Low wage workers' jobs are "essential" as defined by the pandemic. But these essential people are vulnerable to the landlords. The lack of affordable housing is pushing people out of the homes they have as landlords look to capitalize on rising rents.

Landlords, of course, need to maintain property and ensure healthful environments but they need to recognize the stability affordable rent provides for their tenants who consider their rental home.
