Backing loans for landlords that raise rents beyond a reasonable standard, use discriminatory practices, or evict tenants without good cause is a policy choice that undermines the FHA’s core mission of creating access to housing. I write in strong support of tenant protections for properties with FHA-backed mortgages. The agency should cap rent increases at 3% per year, enact good cause eviction protections, and enforce existing laws that target discriminatory landlords. Renters can’t wait.
