Since I cannot say it better myself, I would like to quote Florida Rising in urging you to implement meaningful rent control to protect tenants, especially those from marginalized communities, amid this perilous heat and in all times going forward: "s an organization rooted in building and uplifting local power; and both collaborating and amplifying the voices of Florida’s New Majority, we know this summer has been “Hotter than July” in more ways than one! Undoubtedly, global and local temperatures are at an all time high, and average temperatures post 1981 are rising twice as fast. Simply put: It is just too damn hot – with too many children, families and seniors living without access to air conditioning and the fiscal privileges that allow an escape from the heat, we are overwhelmingly concerned and active to ensure ALL are protected during both our climate and housing crises! We have to protect and advocate for our equitable protections and care…Florida Rising wants to remind all members and supporters that building Black and Brown political power is our top priority, and we do that through fighting the power — we are pushing back on an anti-Black establishment and uplifting opportunities for everyday people to engage in a political system which fails if not committed to representation, life, and liberation!"
