    Here in San Luis Obispo, CA, rents have more than doubled in the past 5 years. Apartments and small homes that used to rent for $800-$1000 per month are now more than $2000. Even doctors, nurses, teachers, and other professionals have been priced out, and forget about our frontline service workers! They are forced to commute 50-60 miles per day, or even more. The Federal Housing Finance Agency should protect tenants by limiting annual rent hikes to 1.5 times the Consumer Price Index or 3%, whichever is lower, in properties with federally backed mortgages. These limits should be applied universally as a requirement to all federally backed mortgage programs.
