Whilst it is fair and appropriate that a landlord be allowed to use measures to protect their sizable investment in a property and make a profit, the level of protection for landlords' rights versus tenants' has skewed way out of control. When someone rents, they are paying for a place to live - not hiring an overlord. Rent prices should be protected from gouging in the same way that other essential basic living needs are. I am astounded, as an example, by the over double increase of rent prices in my zip code compared to pre-pandemic prices. Affordable housing is essential to the well being of a community and it simply doesn't exist anymore.
