While I understand the need for low to moderate housing, I feel there is also a need to protect the landlords. As an owner of a small number of rental properties,I strive to provide safe, clean, affordable housing for my tenants. Rent controls will impact my ability to meet rising costs of taxes, utilities and repairs on my properties. There seems to be a prevailing attitude in agencies wanting to cap rents, that all landlords make a fortune off tenants. this may be true for large rental businesses but many of the landlord situations in our area are small business owners with mortgages, rising taxes, insurance and repair costs that eat up most of the profits from our rentals.
