Living alone as a young person in this country is compleatly unaforadable and when people are commenly spending most of their incomes on rent they deserve to have protections especially when their ladlords mortgages are being financed with our tax money. Good cause, banning source of income discrimination, enforcing and expand existing protections against discrimination, requiring safe and accessible housing conditions, requiring fair and standardized leases, and ensuring tenants have the right to organize should all be rights already afforded to tenants and by enacting/ enforcing these you can help radically improve the lives of millions of americans.
Ensuring that there are limits on how much rents are able to be increased is another import step that you can take to help end the housing crisis we are currently living through. Capping rent increases to 1.5 times the Consumer Price Index or 3%, whichever is lower, in properties with federally backed mortgages will help create a country where people are able to aford to rent and conntinue to stay in their communites. These limits should be applied universally as a requirement to all federally backed mortgage programs.
