I moved from New York to South Carolina a year and a half ago because I could not afford the rent in NY. Not even a year in SC my rent went from $1300 to 1500 a month. The pay rate per hour in SC is significantly lower than it is in NY state so there is no way to survive on one income.
My rent is too damn high. The Federal Housing Finance Agency should protect tenants by limiting annual rent hikes to 1.5 times the Consumer Price Index or 3% whichever is lower, in properties with federally backed mortgages. These limits should be applied universally as a requirement to all federally backed mortgages.
