As a current tenant, it is quite devastating to move annually because apartments once priced at affordable levels continue to raise rent. In properties owned by large companies we often have to factor in additional fees on top of rent that totals sometimes to an additional $50 per month. It truly feels as though we are being priced out of living. Wages are not equivalent to the rising prices. Perhaps if groceries were cheaper, electricity cheaper, buying a car cheaper, insurance cheaper we could afford the cost of rent. But it’s not. Then, the people who make just enough to scrape by are told they make to much for any affordable housing options. There’s no winning, and this is why the younger generation feels particular hopeless.
