    In 2019, more than 65% of tenants in Flagstaff AZ were rent burdened (based on Census Bureau/ACS data), paying WELL over 30% of their income in rent. That number has only gone up since the pandemic, and it's creating a crisis in our town - and I know that this is not limited to the area where I live. People can no longer afford to live here, even in "well paying" jobs at the university or hospital. Short term rentals, predatory landlords, skyrocketing eviction rates...all of it has to stop. Enough is enough. We need tenant protections now. We need regulations on rent increases, on corporations buying up properties and turning them into Airbnbs, protections against arbitrary evictions, and so much more.
