Hello, I live in Seattle and I’ve been a tenant, am currently a homeowner, and plan to become a landlord in the near future. I urge you to support tenant protections!

Rent regulations: Protect tenants from and limit egregious rent hikes.

Good cause eviction: Prohibit evictions without good cause, ensuring every tenant has the right to a lease renewal. Good cause is defined as serious and repeated lease violations provable in a court of law.

Safe, quality, accessible housing standards: Require all landlords to keep their properties in good condition, and to ensure homes are accessible for people with disabilities.

While the current housing crisis needs a multi-pronged approach (upzoning, new construction, etc), tenant protections are key to ensure the crisis does not get worse. It will also level the playing field between small-business landlords and giant private equity firms.
