    Housing bought via government-backed loans should include a set of tenant protections for the property if rented as part of the terms of the loans. Some tenant protections that should be considered include:
    rent regulations (Protect tenants from and limit egregious rent hikes);
    good cause eviction requirements;
    ban source of income discrimination;
    enforce freedom from discrimination;
    safe, quality, accessible housing standards;
    landlord registry (tenants should have access to information about their landlord, including address and phone number; when I was a renter my landlord refused to give me his phone number, and I was stuck emailing him as my basement apartment began flooding in a big rainstorm);
    tenant right to organize;
    fair leases

    I recommend this be enforced via a newly formed Office of Tenant Protections, a well-funded team charged with protecting tenants and enforcing their rights in properties with federally backed mortgages.
