It is a wonderful idea for the FHFA to incorporate tenant protection onto its lending guidelines and regulatory framework! Increasing the security of tenure will enhance the agency’s mandate for affordable housing by reducing churn and enabling tenants to build community connections that will ultimately support their ability to pay rent. Landlords who receive government backing should have social obligations. I write for myself with a lifetime of professional experience in the affordable housing and financial stability fields. I also write in honor of the late Charles E. McLean, a former FHFA official who dedicated his life to community development and affordable housing.
