Landlords are raising rents at the highest rates in over 40 years! Median rents in the U.S. have risen nearly 20% in the last two years alone. Nationally, median rent has surpassed $2,000 for the first time ever. In 2023, there is not a single state where a worker employed full-time at the federal minimum wage can afford a modest, two-bedroom apartment. As for myself, I work full-time at more than federal minimum wage and am not able to afford a standard studio or one-bedroom apartment in my county. I currently live in a mobile home park where the rent, while increasing every year, is still barely affordable (each lot rent requires the renter to earn five-times more than the rent they pay). Homelessness is becoming an increasingly serious issue for the average US citizen. What a shameful stain.
