Tenant protections are imperative for renters in New York and renter in general. Greedy slumlords prey on the financial vulnerabilities of low-income tenants by neglecting to make repairs, failing to provide habitable living conditions, and charging ridiculous amounts for rent, yet they still expect to get their rent in full and on time. Slumlords also are quick to evict tenants who ask for repairs to be made or for hazardous conditions to be addressed. Tenant protections make for a more democratic society and are necessary for renters, especially those of low-income means.
