I think federal loans for landlords should require tenant protections that reduce the ability for a landlord to increase rent, helps tenants avoid eviction, and also stipulates maintenance response times be met in a certain timeframe. I'm a renter and I don't make a lot of money. My rent goes up every single year but my wages do not. I shouldn't have to worry about whether I can stay in my home because the profit motive for my landlord wants more of my paycheck. I also want my landlord to be required to fix maintenance issues. This summer I was without AC for several days in Texas before my landlord even responded to my request for maintenance. The price gouging on rents is ridiculous and needs to stop.
