Tenant protections as a condition of federally backed loans are necessary. Rents are skyrocketing for all, but high rents and substandard conditions are causing misery and displacement for poor and working class people. Tenants across the country are in desperate need of protections from eviction, unhealthy conditions in their homes, and rent hikes. Housing insecurity ripples across people's lives and is absolutely devastating. It is simple and clear and necessary: any federally backed loan should be conditional upon meeting requirements that protect tenants.
