I live in Peachtree apartments in Columbia SC and have been dealing with water leaks from the roof, bugs and pest and barely any air conditioning. It's terrible and I am sick of paying rent to live in such an uncomfortable place where I don't even really know who my landlord is and property management is shady. My lease is ending in August and they want to add on another $250 to my rent each month. No more. I can't afford to live in these conditions since it also flares up my medical issues. In August, I'm moving to North Carolina with my daughter and hope that I'll have a better living situation. She is a tenant too so I worry that there will be the same type of issues but just a different location but we'll see. Tenants deserve to at least get basic details about who they are renting from. A landlord registry should be in place to keep these people accountable. Tenants shouldn't have to fight and fight and fight just to live comfortably, especially in properties that are getting our rent AND federal funding. That's not right.
