As the owner/operator of 26 rental units, I have first-hand knowledge on how poorly rent control legislation works.

After doing research on Google I discovered that for the last thirty years of studies on this topic most economists have found rent control fails to achieve the desired goals of more housing and of better priced housing.

Instead of providing regulations that stifle competition, it would make more sense to ease regulations to allow for the construction of more housing. That competition would drive down rental rates.

The thirty years of studies I found have shown that rent control regulations create more homelessness, more bureaucracy, less housing, less property upkeep and less mobility for the population.

This is best summarized by the quote from an economist from one of the most liberal countries in the world, Sweden: Assar Lindbeck said, “…rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city – except for bombing.”
