I am writing as a housing advocate and social worker for the past 30 plus years. More needs to be done in the way of ensuring tenant protections and regulating predatory housing practices. There is exist little oversight and or enforcement. Landlords know this and take advantage. Thus, many are suffering the consequences. There is little to no reprieve in housing court. The majority of cases are mediated in favor of landlords. Many tenants cannot comply with agreements and end up being evicted or moving out. The vicious cycle is perpetuated because there is no real change or accountability.
