Rent is STILL too damn high. And I know this is fixable so I will keep fighting for my rights and home. These proposed tenant protections are a critical step toward holding greedy corporate landlords accountable. Eviction rates are higher than they were before the pandemic. Landlords have too much power over our lives and our homes. They hike our rent, offer slow maintenance or none at all, evict us, and discriminate.

The government is in business with many landlords, offering them favorable loan terms to finance their businesses and, sometimes, enabling their predatory behavior. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac work with banks to offer $150 billion to landlords in financing every year, without any strings attached.

These protections could include regulations on/limiting rent hikes, banning evictions without good cause, housing safety requirements, bans on discrimination, and standardizing leases in over 12 million apartment units nationwide.

It is high time the FHFA stands with people/tenants not corporations. Every person deserves safe, stable housing. Help us.
