Landlords all over the country allow tenants to live in despicable conditions. Here in New Haven, landlords allow their tenants to live in mouse- and mold-infested apartments, with broken essential equipment like windows, stovetops, and deteriorating foundations and structure. They need to be held accountable for forcing people with no other options to live in these conditions. It is reprehensible. Home should be clean, structurally sound, free from pests and contaminants, and safe to live in, no matter someone’s income. It is a human right.
