Landlords -especially megalandlords -have too much power. Rents are rising drastically and evictions are rising, leading to homelessness and displacement. As a result of tenant organizing, the federal government is deciding whether to require landlords who get federal money to agree to tenant protections like limiting rent hikes, banning evictions without good cause, and standardizing leases in over 12 million apartment units nationwide.
