Landlords have too much power over tenants lives and are damaging communities. Landlords can tell us what color our rooms can be, who provides our utilities, whethercwe can have pets or gyests at our homes. On top this they raise rents to affordable prices placing many renters in precarious financial situations. Because of this precarious lufestyle renters are often prevented from fully participating in communities. Schools with many renters see high student turnover. People are forced to commute long distances and give up time with friends and family. Renters need nationwide protections from abusive landlords and unaffordable prices.
