I am writing to submit comments and request that the Federal Housing Finance Agency condition government-backed loans on a set of tenant protections. It isn't right to allow $150 billion in loans to landlords without any oversight or regulation, enabling predatory behavior, and simply giving these landlords the option to "do the right thing." There are many bad actors out there ruining lives by willful neglect of tenant housing, or discriminating based on source of income, or evicting someone without good cause.
If tenant protections can be leading the way on conditions for federally-backed loans, this will make a huge difference for so many. The rents are too damn high, and affordable housing is so hard to find. If you can find them, then there is usually some shady landlord that is not fixing the broken pipes or other issues that are no fault of the tenant. This must end, and we need to see that there are rent regulations, good cause eviction rules, we need freedom from discrimination, safe and quality accessible housing standards, tenants right to organize, fair leases, a landlord registry, and an Office of Tenant Protections.
We need housing that doesn't put us at risk and to feel secure bringing up issues, and knowing that the landlord is accountable. Please do the right thing and add tenant protections as part of the conditions for federally-backed loans to landlords.

    Thank you.
