Housing is essential for a healthy and thriving society, and tenants already don't have a lot of protections. If we want to have a healthy society, we need protections like limited rent hikes (not just hiking rent to make more profit when this results in tenants becoming homeless), banning evictions without good cause, and standardizing leases in more apartments nationwide to ensure folks can remained housed in a way that is fair and supports them continuing to have stability so they can continue to contribute to society easily.
