Corporate America bought millions of homes over the past four years, pricing individuals out of homes. Now, more than ever, affordable housing is hard to secure even with a healthy salary. Rent hikes of 10 %- 40% are not unheard of among social circles. This so corporations can recoup their investment and turn a profit much faster. Much faster than an average homebuyer. Tenant protections need to be in place both federally and at the state level. Landlords should not discriminate based on income, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, criminal record, etc. Failure to add these protections will eventually lead to homeless, overcrowded households, and many other social, emotional, and health crises.
