We need rent protections in Charleston SC. We had bad bed bugs in one rental unit and our landlord was a slumlord. He told us we probably brought them with us and to treat it ourselves. I got a lot of bites and had to get some meds from my doctor bc I was having an allergic reaction to the bites. I was 9. My parent deserve better bc they try so hard to keep us in a loving home but how can they do that when the person who has the real keys to our home doesn't take care of the property and just keeps hiking the rent bc they can. Give a rental cap and require Safe, quality, accessible housing standards: Require all landlords to keep their properties in good condition, and to ensure homes are accessible for people with disabilities. No renter should have to live in an inaccessible home or in housing conditions that put their health and safety at risk.
