Provisions in the name of renter protections are a total and complete failure. Just look at areas that have oppressive rent control like Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco CA. Property owners are unhappy, renters are unhappy and the only people who seem to benefit are the government bureaucrats that can hire more staff based on User fees (housing prices go up) and tenant attorneys that use these laws to just drive up costs and delay removal of troublesome and non-paying tenants. The net result is lower housing production and higher rents.
