It is the responsibility of the federal government to protect its citizens and thus tenants and those that are being priced out of housing.
As a homeowner, I am not oblivious to the fact that despite not feeling the impacts of egregious corporate greed and negligent landlords directly or bluntly, I know that catering towards the rich will always lead to an increase in cost of living for the everyday person. The federal government is allowing the normal person to be priced out of their communities and thus being priced out of their opportunity to survive, let alone thrive.
The less regulation on corporate ownership, the more harm caused to the middle and low income communities.
The federal government MUST PROTECT TENANTS BY:: limiting rent hikes, prohibiting evictions without good cause, ban source of income discrimination, enforce and expand existing protections against discrimination, require safe and accessible housing conditions, create a landlord registry, require fair and standardized leases, ensure tenants have the right to organize, and create an Office of Tenant Protections to enforce these rights in all properties with federally backed mortgages.
The federal government should be for the people, not for the pockets of the rich!
