Absolute yes to all of this. We in the state of Texas are in an absolute housing crisis because of the unregulated and immoral renting industry that forces us to either stay in toxic or unsafe homes, or live on the streets where we can die of the heat, all because we can't afford an arbitrary price of living. Every single person I know that's my age (18-25) has a well-paying job for the area either cannot afford to rent and so stay with their parents, or are trying so desperately hard to afford rent that they're skipping meals and taking 2nd and 3rd jobs. We need regulation desperately in Texas, but long-term what we need is the abolition of rent. Housing is a human right.
