I am a lucky individual in that I purchased a house in Kansas City 60 years ago, and was able to pay it off. While I am stuck with increased insurance and tax costs that have been rising, I am still fortunate, because I don’t have to pay rent. My heart breaks for all of the people in Kansas City and the rest of the country who live paycheck to paycheck and will never be able to afford to buy their own home, because their rent is too high. The rising cost of rent is out of control and something needs to be done to make the rent affordable for the average working person; their tax dollars cannot simply go to provide landlords with money to buy properties while renters will never be able to see that dream realized.
