I am a part of Nashvillians Organized for Action and Hope, NOAH, that works to change systems and policies that are unjust and racist. We are 68 member organizations strong representing thousands of Nashvillians. Our eviction levels are high, low income tenants have no one to represent them in court and we've witnessed countless instances where landlords don't follow the law. Our state laws are weak and heavily favor landlords over tenants. Federal renter protections are critically needed to address the power imbalance between landlords and renters that puts renters at greater risk of housing instability, harassment, and homelessness and fuels racial and gender inequity. Given the broad reach of FHFA’s work, any renter protections created by FHFA should cover a significant share of renters across the nation and put America on a pathway towards stronger protections for all renters.
