"From 2016 until now, when my mother died, my rent has been raised and my landlord doesn't fix anything or protect anybody. It seems like the poorer you are the worse it gets. When I moved in my rent went was $630. After the pandemic, my rent went to $720.

They didn't raise my rent during the pandemic, but now that it's over they want to slam us with a $90 raise. I'm on a fixed income, so I hardly get enough money to pay for necessities - toilet paper / paper towels. Things I have to have. Regular, everyday necessities. Soap, shampoo, food. I also have to pay my electric bill and it cuts into my budget for necessities. If I can't pay my electric bill, my landlord will kick me out. I have to have it. And it's not just me, it's everybody. I pay extra rent for what? They don't jump on trying to fix anything. Our laundry room door handle has been off for 2 months. We have no security here. If I didn't have my son and my sister to loan me money, I wouldn't have money to do anything."
