    I am a leader with KC Tenants. Through my work on our Hotline team, I have spoken with hundreds of tenants in the Kansas City metro (and some from across the country) about evictions, unhealthy living conditions, and drastic rent increases. As a working class tenant myself, I fear that a rent increase could force me to find a new home. Landlords need to be held accountable. Common sense solutions are rent regulations, a ban on source of income discrimination, a tenants' right to organize, and the establishment of an Office of Tenant Protections. This work MUST be led by the tenants who are closest to the problems millions of Americans face every day, and enforcement measures must be strong enough so that landlords who are found in violation of their tenants' rights are not eligible for future loans. We refuse to pay for our own displacement any longer.
