I am a tenant in Somerville, who's rent and utility bill has gone up consistently every single year that I have lived here. I have had to live with several people I do not know at a time, live in an office-space instead of a room, and live with additional people in my home not on the lease who did not have a current place to live in Somerville at the time. I know that in a few years I will be pushed out, because my current income will not be able to keep up with the price of rent and the increases in rent, so either I will leave or be forced to work 60-70 hours a week to afford to pay all my bills.
Tenants deserve rent control, just-cause eviction, an office of tenant protection, and other federal measures to ensure a home guaranteed.
