    Western Massachusetts needs way more affordable housing. It's ridiculous the rents they charge around here. The suggested rent for a 3 bedroom is $1500 a month, but most landlords charge nearly double that. The people who live and work in this part of the state do not make that kind of money. Median household income in Holyoke, MA is just under $38,000 a year. Using the 30% rule, someone making that salary shouldn't pay more than $950 a month. You cannot find anything, not even a total dump, for that price. Tenants need help. They need safe, affordable housing. They don't need to be bent over the barrel by absentee landlords who are doing the bare minimum of upkeep and charging exorbitant rents.
