I hope you will support more protections for renters in FHFA guaranteed housing. The resources of our Federal government should beneift people across the economic spectrum. While it is important to support the construction and purchase of rental properties to increase the supply of rental units, the government must insist that in exchange for accepting taxpayer funds the beneficiaries of this program offer safe, affordable, stable housing to communities where there is a need.
Just this morning, I read on a local new site about an elderly woman living in her car because she was unable to find a landlord willing to accept her section 8 voucher. Ordinary people are suffering because of the shortage of rental housing units and the greed of some landlords who are jacking up rents to the point where ordinary folks can no longer afford them. Unlike rents, once you sign for a mortgage the payments remain stable. Expenses may increase but, the federally guaranteed mortgage will remain the same until it is paid off. Landlords who benefit from these loans should not be entitled to jack up rents to the "market rate" when it means forcing people out who can't afford to go anywhere else. I fully support the idea of capping rent increases on these units.
Here in New Hampshire we have "good cause" eviction protection for renters. It has helped to keep folks in their homes during a severe housing crisis. I urge you to extend it to all FHFA housing. There are places in my city that look like third world countries- with people wrapped in blankets huddled in doorways. It wasn't always like this. America was a place that supported its people and took care of them. We need to get back to that and protecting renters in FHFA housing would be a good place to start.
    Thank you
