My parents have been renters most of their lives. That means I've lived in a rental unit most of mine. We lived in a rural property that made me feel like I wasn't a person that deserves to live in a nice home like my friends. There wasn't an I'm the summer and no heat in winter. The bed bugs were the worst. My sister had so many allergic reactions. She still has scars. I'm always nervous of something crawling on me. I want rent protections so landlords don't just let people suffer like that. I have to follow rules at my job, so why don't they? They should have to guarantee a safe, clean, bug free place and not tell you to just leave if it's not. Landlord should be held accountable and have standards that are better than what they have now. Since that was the most affordable place for us, when we did move, we moved into another rental that was just as bad. We stayed there for a year before we ended up houseless. The rent is too high for my parents. I'm scared about what will happen if the rent is still too high for me when i get ready for college this year.
