We need an office of tenant protections created to bring access to the American dream to all Americans. Not just Landlords. My landlord has made our living conditions terrible and still decides to charge rent hikes. We've complained for years about different issues- mold and pests (that he blamed us for, and not the damage to the building). There was so much damage that the city even issued an immediate cease and desist notice. Our landlord taped it to the wall a week after he got it, and didn't even tell us he got the notice himself. Horrible communication.
My story is not unique for Americans- but we can prevent this by establishing an office of tenant protections, rent control, and other measures to protect citizens.
